Dog tale

What do you call a pet that disappears?
Lost?
The neighbors haven't seen it.
The pound, humane society and local vets haven't seen it.
The owner puts flyers on her car, asking people if they have seen it.
An anonymous call comes in pointing out Ivan.
I find Ivan's house. Ivan isn't home. Neighbors have seen Ivan with the dog, trying to sell it, complete with a story his ex wife gave it to him.
I attempt to contact Ivan and leave a card.

While off-duty Ivan is contacted, the dog is verified as the "missing dog". Ivan tells the other deputy that he found dog in the area it was lost. it jumped into his car. he says he left in his buddies yard for a couple days, next door to the owner's house, it went unclaimed. he didn't try to contact the pound, the humane society or any vets and admits to wanting a reward.

The ex-wife calls in, alerted by someone, the ex, Ivan, said he got it from her. ex-wife, denies stating she saw him with it and "a buddy gave it to him". Ivan tried to give the dog to their daughter and sell the dog to his sister.

I am attempting to contact Ivan again to verify his story. None of which seems believable.

The life you save

Holding over for a short shift, 12 hours into my day and 20 minutes until i am supposed to go off duty. I drive around watching as cars go about.
I spot a car with no taillights and going to fast.
I stop the car and check them out.
As I run the driver a group of vehicles passes my patrol car. All but the last slows down and gets over. The last, a SUV, never slows down and comes within a foot of my car.
I quickly give a warning to the driver and return to my patrol vehicle and take off after the SUV. It is about 200 feet ahead. It turns into a late night diner, hitting the curb as it enters the parking lot.

I am behind the vehicle as it parks, lights on, out of the car before the driver knows what is going on.
The diner patrons are all looking out the window.
-hello I am DD, any reason you didn't slow down or move out of the lane?
glassy eyed and smelling of beer "I thought I did"
-do you realize you are required to do slow down and/or move out of my lane? do you realize how close you came to my car? how much did you have to drink?
"i thought I slowed down, i don't know. a beer"
I call for a cover unit and start the FSTs. He fails. I transport him to jail and he apologizes the whole way to jail.

Radar

In my state when you use radar to stop someone for speeding, you do not have to show them the radar. people who have moved here from a nearby state get confused and demand to see the radar showing how fast they were going.
Yesterday a traffic stop swore that his radar jammer prevented me from getting a reading, demanded I show him the radar and said he would fight the ticket in court.
Big on customer service I wrote him the ticket.
"the law says you have to show me the radar!"
-no sir I don't.
I started to explain the ticket and court date.
"Give me the frackin ticket! I know what to do! I'll see you in court! Go frackin rape someone else!"
-have a nice day
as he drove off

Slideshow of Sorrow

As I offered my camera to another officer, he reclaimed his memory stick from the camera.
I found one of my spare memory sticks and flip threw the pictures.
It a collection of photos of pain.
Damaged cars.
Graffiti.
Criminal Mischief.
Bruised women.
And the worst the dead, suicides and the wrecks the leave.
