54 days

Two days before I was to be laid off, I got the call from brass.
"want to work for 60 more days?"
-sure
"stay in patrol for a week and we are re-arranging stuff"

The end of that week came and went and I was re-assigned.
I am in a "special assignment". Temporarily taking another laid off officer's spot, one with more seniority (which is explained by the "temporary" term, i.e. only 60 days), with 8 hours shifts of slow work, with co-workers who wonder why the higher senior guys weren't hired back.
Only 54 more days until I get laid off.

The latest

After getting a phone calls and text messages from all the other guys who got laid off, I found out lay-offs were to be pushed off a week.
When I got a call from the brass, it was to be notified that they were opening jobs at the jail.

Oppurtunity

I stop John for no muffler.
Driver wants to get out and talk to me
"I got no license or hard identification"
-okay I am going to put you in handcuffs until I figure what is going on"
"I got weed on me"
-thanks for being honest.

John is suspended misdemeanor. He has switched the plates on the vehicle, he is on probation, he doesn't have any paperwork for the vehicle, no insurance.

-John, you been pretty nice. I will just cite and release to you for the DWS-misdemeanor, take the plates and you can walk home. I can still come back in 30 days in give all the traffic cites.

"thanks for the break"
I get called to cover another officer. I then get called to a disturbance. As I fly by I see John walking down the road. I clear the disturbance and head to a bar check.

I am about to pass where John's vehicle should be parked.
John is in the car which is about to pull onto the road. I stop him again.
-so what are we doing?
"i was moving it so my buddy could see me and give me a ride"
-tell you what if he shows up and you are telling me the truth no tickets. I give him 10 minutes.

John's buddy never shows up
John gets another citation for DWs-Misdemeanor and 5 traffic citations and I impound his vehicle.
-John I gave you an oppurtunity
"man i just make dump mistake after mistake.
he walks off into the rain.

The double

Officer BK stops a white pickup for suspicion of duii.
The driver is drunk and the two passengers are also drunk, one being the owner of the car. They are told to stay in the car or they can stay in mine.
The driver obviously intoxicated refuses to take the FST's and gets to go to jail. The passengers are told not to drive and walk to one of the passenger's house down the road. The owner of the car complains but walks down the street.

Scotty and I keep an eye on the car. While driving the area short time later, I see a white pickup weaving.
-BK what was the plate of your earlier duii
"123456"
-i am behind it and their driving is poor.
"i'll be right there" at the end of the transmission I can hear his engine accelerate

BK catches up and ask to pass. I am generous and let BK take the lead and the stop. It is the owner of car, still really drunk.

BK now can say "two duii's from the same vehicle on the same night".

time

james is the 2:40 am nightly winner of the "drunk at the bar, swung at the bouncer, bouncers tuned me up" award.
he sits handcuffed awaiting for LE.
the bouncers don't want to press charges and want him 86'ed for 30 days.
james is escorted from the property, as he lives 100 ft away.
james states he is going to kick my ass and Scotty, my wingman's ass, when he gets to the edge of the property.
-you know where i am.

james gets to the edge of the property and stumbles in an attempt to swing on Scotty. Scotty grabs him and starts to go to the ground with james on top. I grab them and swing them around so Scotty lands on top.

Scotty is trying to get james to quit flailing. I center my knees above james' back and drop into his back.
james continues to profess that he is winning even as the gravel scratches his face and he is handcuffed.
He is taken for a detox, stripped and strapped to a bed.

As we leave Scotty turns to me and says, "he wasn't real cooperative until you got on top of him."

If I am lucky

i have time to update my blog
i will get to sleep 8 hours
i will only be down 8 reports the end of a shift
i will have a job in 3 weeks
