Welfare

earlier in the day D called to report people poisoning her medication and riding dirt bikes through her house. neither of which are true. D is slipping into dementia, but isn't dangerous to herself.

chief calls later, D has been calling him, leaving worrisome messages. chief calls in a welfare check on D. D won't come to the door or answer the phone. Officers can see into the house. They knock and that is when D picks up the gun.

That is when other units are called in to secure the perimeter. Roads are blocked off. Neighbors are warned, lights are turned off or unscrewed.

I spend 2 hours sitting in a bush, while the SWAT team cycles through various plans and finally execute the final plan. D is taken into custody without incident.
