After getting a phone calls and text messages from all the other guys who got laid off, I found out lay-offs were to be pushed off a week.
When I got a call from the brass, it was to be notified that they were opening jobs at the jail.

after checking to make sure i would affect the layoffs in the corrections deputy, i will be working as a temp for up to 60 days. i am hoping one of the places i applied will pick me up
Good luck with the job hunt, and keep us posted. (Any chance you could move over to someplace less remote? Like, somewhere near your brother's territory?)
