Mental Hold

I have a Sunday night shift to cover for a guy elk hunting. Typically a quiet night. I am about to settle in to do some paperwork in the office between patrols.

I am entering the office and I hear a noise across the quiet city. A yell or bark or something. I can't tell where and what it is, so I go into the office. A whole 10 seconds late I get a call for 3 males yelling at each other, ready to fight behind the market.

It takes all of 14 seconds to get there. There is one male walking drunkenly towards me, while I can see two males three blocks down the street in the shadows. I tell the one male to stop and attempt to catch the other two, who disappear. I have the other unit search the area, while I talk to the one guy, who isn't smart enough to take off.

He is drunk and repeats himself over and over again. He wont' tell me what is going on. Only the same story, over and over again. He won't cooperate, so I take him to detox to sober up. He has the BAC of .249% and will spend the night there. I get the call on the way to Detox that the bar has a guy who can't pay for $29 worth of food and liquor.
-i';; be there in a minute-

I go to the bar. The guy has no money he never intended to pay. He asks for medics to check him out, because he is hallucinating. I have the medics check him. He starts making homicidal and suicidal threats and statements. I arrest him and take him to the hospital for a mental hold. He talks crazy the whole way there. I take him to the psychiatric unit and fill out the paper work. The nurse talks with him for about 5 minutes ans says what do you won't done with him. - I think he is dangerous to himself and others and I would like a mental health eval performed on him.-
"I see your point, but he is fine, what do you want done with him?"
-I have placed a hold on him, because he is dangerous. I want him eval. I am giving him to you for that purpose. What you do with him is your choice. If you release him and he walks out and stabs someone, that is one you.-
my head is tilted low, my face is starting to redden and burn, I can feel it. The other nurses and security guards are watching me.
"ok". he turns and walks off.
I leave, the other nurses apologize and the security guards apologize for the one nurse's behavior. I give a copy of the ORS to the security guards, so they can re-familiarise the staff with it.

I go back to my pond. I am doing follow-up at the bar. Dispatch call and the hospital wants to know what I want done with him. I re-explain myself to Dispatch. I call them on the phone an apologize to them about the tone. I hate re-explaining myself. They have security on the other line, the guy is wandering around the acting weird and they want to know if they he is dangerous.
-dangerous enough fo rme to put a MH hold on him.-
"ok"

I also learn of what my borhter always spoke of. The "growl". People look at you, challenge you, want to set the tone with you and want to control how things are going to be. The "growl" lets them know how it is going to be. I like being able to talk to people out and around tough spells, but I am surprised the amount of growling I have had to do.

I imagine your growling is decently imposing. :)
