NHI

NHI = no humans involved

I get a call a frequent flyer has been assaulted.
I arrive on scene J has been assaulted by C. I search J, he has had bear mace and knives, on him the last four times I talked with him.

"I am the victim"
-yup, but you have had weapons on you each time.
"C assaulted me. He chased me with bear mace and threatened to kill me"

C drives up. He also is a frequent flyer by association (in questioning/by mentioning).

C says " I saw him walking down the street and then he flips me off. I get out of the car and he starts running around like an idiot. I didn't have any weapons" No weapons on him or in his car.

Witness says "these two idiots are running around my yard, yelling at each other. I saw no weapons."

then the talk both of them but separate

-stay away from each other. don't call each other. don't do any high school "he said she said BS". I get another call like this I will take you both to jail. I am tired of it. The neighborhood, the DA, the Sheriff don't have to put up with it.

C "I understand, won't happen again. I don't need this"
-great you are free to leave

J "I understand, but you couldn't arrest me for something like this."
-great try me. I won't have a hard time proving it.

J head off being a twitchy little flyer.

Update:
the gentleman with near fatal roll over, possible DUI, is alive no neck/head injury. He is on surgery #2 at OHSU. City PD calls. The car is stolen, from a house. The house broken into and totally thrashed. At least two felonies and the DUII await after the surgeries.

It's happening

I can feel it happening.

It has been brought on by the schedule change. The winter. Settling in to the routine and learning the frequent flyers. I haven't been exercising.

I have begun to get grumpy towards people. Not in person, not yet. I start wondering why people can't figure things out for themselves. Why they call. Why they get themselves into stupid situations.

I know it's coming, I can change it.
I await the return of my wife and spending time with regular people. My schedule goes back to normal this week. I have to start exercising. I don't want to slip.

14 yr old and catheter

Amongst the calls of wrecks and alarms of the night.

A request for assistance. A 14 yr old, drunk, semi-conscious, vomiting.

I arrive wondering how I beat the medics.

The 14 year old went to park with 3 friends. Two others showed up and take 14 yr oldt off with a bottle. 14 yr old comes back and is not well with alcohol. The 3 brought them to a house, not knowing what to do with the intoxicated boy.

They put him into the tub. To allow for the vomiting and keep him in one place.

Pick him up and strap him to gurney. I call the mom from the hospital, come get your son.

Medical staff ask for extra hands to hold 14 yr old down. I volunteer. Why not be helpful?

-why does he need to be held down?

"We are going to put the catheter in and he won't like it"

"EIEIEIEYARRAHRHGHG" says the 14 year old. in goes the tube

nurse "most men don't like having a tube shoved up there pee pee"

-I thought they just pumped your stomach and second isn't there a better term than pee pee?

nurse "nope, we only pump stomachs if they seem poisoned. he is just drunk off his arse. second I got a thousand names for the penis, none of them medical. you just get that sense of humor working here."

The moral of the story... if you drink to much (and your a guy) expect the tube.

Almost

A slow grave shift.
6 hours into a quiet Monday.

A call comes for a car in the ditch, no one around.
I come the area, no car in a ditch.
It's either same car reported earlier or the person got the car out and drove off. A frequent DUI trick.
I search for about 15 minutes, requesting better location and contact with RP.
No RP info and no better location.
I start would was going to be my last pass.

"2nd caller reports car in ditch vehicle just south of where you are."

I get on the on ramp and there in the median is the vehicle. lights on no one around. it's totalled, having been rolled 8 times.

I get out of the call and call out position.

I see something odd.

-I need medical and fire started asap, I got a body

I thought the person was curled up against the driver side of the car, maybe asleep/passed out.

He was thrown during the rollover and the car came to rest on top of him. All of his limbs are under the car. His face is pushed into the back tire.

-hey buddy can you hear me?

He responds, " unhhhhhhhhh"

-i got a male pinned under vehicle, barely conscious.

City arrives on scene, all of them that are on duty. they want to lift the car off him.

-no way let medical do it.

The fact there could be neck or spine injuries for one. As well as the fact as soon as pressure gets off those limb, whatever blood is not flowing will now start flowing with a vengeance.

Fire arrives, Ambulance arrives,

the guy smells like alcohol. fire uses air bags to lift the car off him and take him to the hospital.

the car isn't his. i have to search for family members and phone numbers. i half to wake up the brother.

-i can't find phone for anyone else. your brother was in accident and is at the hospital. do you have the number's for any family members?

he does. mom works at the ER, but isn't working tonight.

i go to the hospital. the guy has a huge open wound on his right leg about 8". The left leg is open from the knee to his thigh on the inside. I can see knee and bone

I read a barely conscious man a form and have the blood drawn for testing.

Mother arrives say her son is on probation for car theft and the car most likely is stolen. The neighbor has been giving her son alcohol. He has no driving privileges.

The xray, the check for spine and head injuries. And rush him to surgery.

I attempt contact with owner of the vehicle. No one answers the phone or the door. I have the vehicle towed. I have to sit in 20 degree weather, waiting for the tow, using my light to highlight the wreckage.

I let day shift know the vehicle's owner maybe calling about the car.

one minute later I would have left the area.
