Great Idea

So this is a reference to 12.

update is DA is still trying to sort out it's business.

i show up to work yesterday.

Sgt is working a car theft and another officer is working car clouts.

turns out they are related.

turns out H is in custody. they got him, but they think his partner got away.

i go to assist. the truck is recovered, H has so much stuff in his pocket, it is obvious he has broken into several cars.

i meet up C and F who are looking for a phone that H had and "dropped".
C was arrested with H last week. C and F deny being involved, they are looking for the phone and know H was out an may have been up to no good.

H gets to jail and drops a dime on C, but when Sgt and i go back to find him H is gone.

C calls me today and wants to know if I found his phone. I did and i say i want to return it.

C agrees to meet me at the Hospital. I read him his rights.
"i want a lawyer"
-okay you are under arrest.

i hook him up and ask why he is at hospital.

"i have a staff infection in my face"
great. call the jail which wants him medically cleared before he can be admitted.

great.
I spend 3 hours waiting. the doctor is slow.
C gets to have his face numbed and the pus removed.
I watch, it's terribly painful, but funny.

i have the talk
-i know you want your lawyer, but consider this. the DA, the department and the community are tired of this breaking into cars and stealing cars crap. this is your second arrest in 2 weeks for the same shit. whom ever is more cooperative and comes up with more helpful information is going to win. C you are in a race. the loser gets more prison and less consideration from the DA....where do you want to finish?

Good Morning Saturday

After narrowly avoiding helping animal control drive out to BFE and collect 20 dogs that were neglected, I drove out on one of the main roads toward the country.

to fly the colors and slow people down.

i am hiding behind a SUV, using that so people can't see me coming and slow down.

i see the white Pontiac shoot across oncoming traffic, missing the SUV. the car tears up the soft shoulder for about 200 feet. missing all 8 of the heavy telephone poles that line the road.

i call out.

check on the 17 yr old female driver.

"i think i fell asleep"

she just remembers waking up, riding the shoulder.

she isn't hurt. car needs a tow.

i cut her a ticket and she goes with dad

ouch

if you are local you saw the news.

or if i emailed you the link, even better.

my car got smashed. i wasn't in it and no one else was hurt.

there was a fire in a commercial big rig truck on the highway. i was alone. no staters, no other county units, no road crew.

i am rerouting traffic at the south end. i am there for hour, sweating, nearly getting hit by idiots, explaining "yes this is a detour, no you can't go through, no you can't stop there, yes you need to keep moving....."

the big rigs are tricky i have to slow traffic so they can get by .

I am doing pretty good, the staters and road crew are starting arrive. i wave a truck by.

bang and crunch

my head pivots towards my car, towards the direction of the big rig that just went by. i see the front end of the car being crunched and pushed by the rear tires of the truck.

witnesses would later remember my initial response as being
"SON OF A BITCH!"
followed by
-DD can you notify SGT, my vehicle has been struck by truck. no injuries, but i am going to need a tow and i am really blocking traffic now.

the driver of the rig gets out and says.
"shit i don't need this, this is my first trip driving by myself, i just got my CDL"

-great

we exchange info. staters handle the investigation, take pictures, contact the car that was hit by my car. oh yeah did i mention it hit another car? did i also mention the officer who i share the car with is very possessive about the car and gets bent out of shape when i leave a pen in it.

i'm not happy. i am still on probation. i can get canned for anything. i get a slow ride in the sgt's car back into town, past the 2 miles of cars ...backed up, behind my smashed car.

the stater comes by the station, gets my info and gives me some info.
he tells me not to worry, they guy admitted to him it was a bad turn and he was at fault. the driver told him he didn't want to hit the cement rails, so he cut the corner to quickly.

i go into to DMV to submit my crash report. the guy at the DMV goes "so you were the lucky officer."

add another nickname my growing list

crash

update no pictures, but the car is not totalled and will be back in rotation in a while

Simple

district deputy gets an animal abuse call. there are some horses that look neglected. not uncommon. we easily get about 10 calls a week of this type.

Officer B goes out there. I get busy and don't hear all the traffic, but several hours later he is still out there and there are more deputies with him. Then detectives and then search and rescue.

Turns out the horse looked neglected because it had gun shot wound to the face. the owner turned up missing.

turns out the owner turned up dead, murdered.
body found on suspect's property, who also had horse owner's property.

a simple case develops into a major case.
a simple animal abuse case

Pelican

it happens.

"DD respond to M school, they found a dead pelican."

-copy, enroute.

enroute to the school i send messages to dispatch.

1- what they want me to about it?

2- i didn't bring my poking stick.

i arrive on scene. the pelican has been put in a sack near the dumpster.

-hey you guys got a dead pelican

"yeah, i am sorry i didn't know what else to do with it.

-well, unless it was tortured or somebody abused it...i can't do nothing with it, dump it.

"ok"

I clear the scene.

-DD to dispatch, clear for disposition?
"go ahead"
-verified it is a pelican and it is dead, advised to dispose of it, clear.

QDD

QDD just got on his own.

he calls me about 3-5 times a shift.

asking question, advise.

he was originally just QDD, but I named him and myself in the process.

QDD has same name as me and we work the same shift. the sgt was looking for him calling him little DD, even though he is bigger than me.

i piped in

- you should really call him Quiet (or QDD), because I am so loud.

sgt starts laughing
"that's true"

now there is Quiet DD and
me loud DD.

12

Day Shift starts for me.

i wake up a half hour before work.

i am dressed and ready to work 15 minutes before my shift starts.

Officer D calls Sgt, he is late.

Dispatch chimes in at start of shift, calling D's number
"D UUMV" it repeats three times.
no answere.
"DD UUMV"
-DD copies enroute

i meet with victims.During the night, while they slept, someone came into the house and took all the keys to the 5 cars parked out front, rummaged through the vehicles and stole two of the vehicle.

there are no clues, no evidence. the back door was unlocked. they had friends over watching a movie, but no one they knew who would take the car.

i check the area for the cars, looking for the dumped joy ridden car.

the area where the cars were taken is the center the car clouts that have been plaguing the area.

two hours later the victim calls.
"my car in high centered about 30 miles out of town. there are 3 people walking away from it. this lady called me after finding my car. here is the phone number"

i call the lady. the one of the stolen vehicles is off a dirt road. high centered, but not damaged. three people were walking away from it down the dirt road. she gave them a ride, but they should be at the local country store.

i haul ass to the dirt road.

as i am going to the dirt road, a car passes me. all the occupants give a look and catch my attention. i don't have time to stop it.

the lady meets me near the car. no keys no stereo. high centered off the road.
"i gave them a ride to the store. they were going to meet up with M", she give great descriptions of the three.

M lives in near the country store, but no good address. i stop at the store and ask the workers.
"M lives about 100 feet that way with her grand mother. M isn't there she left about 3 minutes before you got her. She had 3 friends with her and she called us saying the cops were coming, when you passed her."

-can you describe the 3 friends?
they match the 3 people leaving the car and the 3 who got a ride from the lady.
-thanks

i go to her house. grandmother gives me phone number, date birth and vehicle license.... the one that passed me and all the occupants looked at me.

i put an ATL on the vehicle and call M from grandmother's phone.
-hey M this DD, where are you?

"i'm at Joes in town"

-great stay there i'll have an officer come meet you there. do you still have the 3 people with you?

"I....dropped them off and I don't know them very well and..."

-wrong. M i am going to be very blunt. you know those people and you know why i am calling. if you don't want to cooperate that is fine, but I will come arrest you for everything and I will have DHS with me so that while you are in PRISON, someone will take care of your son.

"um....where can i meet you"

-fine, stay put there until you talk to an officer

"I want to tell you I don't know those people and......."

click. i hang up and have an officer sit at Joes.

i call the owner of the 1 vehicle and arrange for the return, but with no keys and 30 miles out of the city it will be interesting. the other car is still gone.

M meets with the other officer. She lies at first, but then tells gives up all the others names and where they crashed for the night. she also says the 2nd stolen vehicle is about half mile further in the woods where the 3 dumped it. M says her bf, H texted her earlier in the night about stealing a car and then showed up with the 2 cars, C and a S. They dumped the cars and wanted a ride back into town.

Officer QJ and i go the suspects house. grandfather is out front fixing his car.
-hey is H and C home? Can i go in you home?
i explain what is going on. he is more than fine with it.

i walk in H and C are sleeping on the couch.

-HELLO, I AM DD, STAY PUT. WE ARE GOING TO PLAY A GAME. COOPERATION MEANS YOU DON'T GO TO JAIL

i interview them both
C tells me everything. "we were watching a movie here. H leaves comes back with car #1 and then Car #2. I don't ask were he got them but I know they are stolen. We go to visit M and decided to ditch them. I drove car #2 with S as passenger. I ditched it about half mile from car #1 and broke out the windows in the front, so you couldn't get finger prints."

it confirms the story and the timeline off the witness and M.

H tells me
-every been arrested or to prison?
"yeah for stealing cars"
-okay
"we were at a bar, came home, got magicked out into the dirty road. got ditched a party called M for a ride. I don't know anything'

-really that's your story?

"it's truth"

-interview over, don't waste my time

i take C and H to jail. S calls there phone while at the jail.

-S this is DD, do you want to give me a statement or do i just put out a warrant.
"I'll be there ASAP

S tells me, other than the fact she wasn't drinking (she is 20)
"i was hanging out with H and C, we went to H's house. He left then returns with car #1 and #2. He drives #1 and C drives #2 out to the dirt road. The talk to M. state they need to ditch the car. C drives #2 out into the woods, breaks the windows and attempts to wipe fingerprints off the car and they meet H walking down the road, after seeing car #1 high centered. then they get a ride into town from M, back to H's house. M gets a phone call while they are talking and just leaves. S says she didn't know they were stolen until they were out on the dirt road."

-thanks, you don't leave town, don't talk to the other 2 and hang out with better friends.

car#2 is recovered half mile in the woods from the other one. no keys front windows busted out.

now proving that H got into the house. he is the main guy. C is not smart enough.

the holiday

the holiday came and went without much interest for me.

it came by luck that i moved to days, with my weekend right up to the holiday.

i was given the rare opportunity to enjoy it with friends and new people, after working in the morning.

i wake up the day after and head into work, early in the morning, 5 am.

for some reason I turn on the radio.

nothing but chatter for all local units, which is unusual. mornings don't have much going on a wreck a drunk, barking dog, criminal mischief, etc.

units are driving here and there, calling out. County, City and State.

i get to the station and get ready quick, anticipating getting called into whatever is going on.

i check the call board.

murder.

all but 2 local units are involved. neighboring county has units in area including a helicopter.

graveyard and hold overs from swings are in the area.

i get directed to the scene to relieve graveyard.

it is 30 minute trip to the scene. slowly city units clear and return to the city. staters do the same.

i go to the scene and become the gate keeper. all but sgt and original on scene officers clear.

no one gets in or out of the scene without checking in.

i get to hear the girlfriends and kids story.

again i am an elephant on the scene.

standing. overhearing all

i see the pictures of the victim.

Chef

Chef is a local transient.

He has been detoxed a number of times. Always respectful, always polite, always with a jug of wine he got from begging.

I drive by a local business that has been closed for months. It has an cyclone fence enclosed dumpster area, with slats that once hid the dumpster.

I drive by after a citizens complains of transients in the area.

I do a slow loop through the parking lot.

I can see through the slats when I am about 30 feet away.

I can see two bodies, one on top of the other and the unmistakable motion of thrusting, with a white ass going to town.

I stop my car, clear my throat and announce myself.

Chef and his lady quickly get dressed.

Chef is polite, friendly and has smile that won't go away.
"you caught us. we have permission to be here"
-ok, you need to pick a better spot
"man what a bummer"

now every time I see Chef, all i visualize is ass pumping away
