A feeling

A women calls in.

"I can feel there has been an accident. It it about an hour away in the woods. It is a man. I can feel he is on the southside of the road in the trees about 100 feet off. I can feel there is pain in his legs. He has been in a car accident"
Quiet DD gets assigned the call, but I don't get to hear how it is resolved.

This is the third 900 (900 = mental) call we have had in an hour.

Dumped

E works for a nearby pond. E responds to a robbery and stabbing. E is on a motorcycle at a high rate of speed. The road raise due to an old train track that was paved over. At the speed E is at, his weight shifts up. The other side of the bump the road goes into a curve and slops away. The motorcycle comes down and the weight of the bike shifts down and to the left. E puts the bike down. E slides to far. E cracks two vertebrate. E gets airlifted to a different hospital and has surgery. 9 pins and 3 screws, E is not paralyzed and will recover in 3 months.

TJ

Came in to work Thursday. No TJ, back at the jail. Monday TJ could not get a 84 year old man to come along. It was the final straw for coworkers and the brass.

Goat Rope

The pond's animal control, only handles dog calls and only works 8-12 and 1-5, Monday-Friday.
So when a sheep, cow and horse gets loose, we get the call.
That is why we now have dog catcher poles in the cars now. A 3' pole with a noose at the end, that allows you to slip the noose around the animals neck and tighten for easy leading of the animal.

Which is where I was yesterday. Walking around with a goat, trying to find its owner. Hoping a fellow officer doesn't drive by.

Lack of

I showed up for work and was a bit shocked to see TJ in uniform.
TJ sent home for insubordination and generally known as a not capable officer.
I asked around, not fired, Sgt put a letter in TJ's file, FTO #3 in Lt's Office again. #3 in the Chief's office.
TJ is not fired and will continue. Traffic stops will be considered "high stress" situations.
I cover my ass on calls with TJ. I don't help TJ.

The brass has set a dangerous precedent. Leaving long term employees and loyal officers wondering.

Drunks

Busy on a friday, I get ta call about two males drunkenly walking across the street and flipping off cars.
A little ways out I approach the area, so I can see down the street where they are supposed to be. Due to the time delay they aren't on the street anymore. I am pretty sure they are headed for a local area trailer park and cut off a side street to check it out.

As I pass the park, here comes drunk #1, stumbling down the road, talking on a cell phone and clutching his other hand to his chest.

I order him to come to me. #1 stumbles up to me and hands me what he is clutching. A large bag of pot.
"you know me bro?"
-nope, but you are being detained.
I start to cuff him. Drunk #2 starts heading my way from down the street and #1 starts to flail. I request another unit.

I get #1 wrangled into the back of my car. A cover unit shows up and start talking to #2.
"that's my cousin, he is really drunk"
-where did he get the weed and the alcohol
"i have no idea"

#2 has a warrants. he gets cuffed and gets to sit next to #1 in the back. #2 keeps whispering to #1, most likely to tell him to shut up about the weed and the alcohol.

I get back to the station and weigh the bag 21 grams, worth about $300.

Sent Home

I got worse for TJ.

On a shots fired call, TJ gives away perimeter security by lighting up a secure position. TJ fails to keep a person out of secure perimeter repeatedly. TJ is told by a Sgt to arrest the person who continues to enter the perimeter. The Lt is on scene.

TJ tells the Sgt "No"

The mild mannered Sgt looses it. Sgt tells TJ's FTO.

"Tell your F***ing trainee to get in the F...ing car. Tell your F...ing trainee to drive back to F...ing barn and change out of F...ing uniform and go the F... home."

FTO talks to TJ, "get out of here."
TJ starts to argue. FTO says "its a done deal, go home"
TJ leaves, status is up in the air.

I know a couple things about my department. They put up with a decent amount of stuff, but they DO not tolerate disloyalty and insubordination.

TJ's years in the jail won't help. If TJ is lucky, TJ's old job will be available, but it doesn't look good.

TJ

TJ is a transfer from corrections. TJ had worked for years for corrections. TJ applied for patrol and was accepted. There was grumblings from patrol, TJ can't and won't cut it. I didn't know TJ well enough to judge and being on probation I have no opinion.

FTO #1 (Field Training Officer) -is infuriated by TJ. #1's opinion is not good, he only shares a little. A pattern of calling in sick starts.
FTO #2 -TJ can talk to people but no command presence and takes too long for decision. The pattern of calling in sick continues.

TJ goes to academy, little if any promising news. TJ get hurt.

FTO #1, takes over for a couple of weeks, while FTO#3 is at training. #1 become grumpier and grumpier. #1 takes all of his holiday vacation to avoid doing anymore training (after talking to the LT). TJ is assigned to a Sgt and still continues to call in sick.

FTO #3 takes over. #3 starts the first shift
"no one help TJ, let TJ figure it out. Unless someone is going to get killed or hurt, let TJ muddle"
TJ shift starts with a "come to GOD" speech with the Lt. #3 later says it was intense and he peed a little.

I ask QuietDD who was out with TJ earlier on a probation violation call.
QDD "it wasn't good. the arrested wouldn't follow commands and TJ struggled. I went to help but #3 waived me off".

It looks bad for TJ, whether it be the sick time use (even if you are vomiting come to work, let them send you home), lack of presence, lack of timely decision making, or general dislike of TJ.

Patrol wishes the brass would pull the trigger either way. Tired of being short, tired of wasting time on FNG. There are another three FNG's coming down the line.

Tilltap

working in the new pond i experience a new thing.
a civil officer called for an officer to do a tilltap.
i was available and had no idea what it was and what i was supposed to do.

the business had a judgement from the court. they owe $2000. civil officers is ordered by judge to go the business. officers than show the judgement and seize all the money in the till and anything the manager/owner has on their person. the business is informed this is happened until the money is paid off.

now i know why the civil officer wanted a second officer

Poof the silence of the night is shattered

-they are orphans and victims, but they barely know it

-they sit in the car while a dozen officers scramble around

-the kids slowly tell their story.

-five and half hours later there is no one left, but me a detective and the burned out flares
